Good to know

πŸͺ” Diwali
Festival week 6–10 Nov, main night Sun 8 Nov β€” you’ll be in Agra for it. Expect lights everywhere, fireworks late, and thicker air quality in the days after.
Time
India is UTC+5:30 β€” 4Β½ h ahead of Warsaw (winter time). No DST in India.
Visa
e-Visa required for Polish citizens β€” apply online well before departure, then print the ETA for immigration.
Money
Rupees (β‚Ή). ATMs at the airport and everywhere in cities; small notes matter for tips and entries. Cards fine in hotels.
If something goes wrong
All-India emergency number β€” one number for police, fire and ambulance. Every other number worth having, including the embassy duty phone, is in the Emergency card below.

Emergency

The card for when something goes wrong. The numbers below are verified; everything marked to fill in is still missing and has to be filled in before departure. The offline edition prints this as one page β€” worth folding into a wallet, because none of it works on a dead phone.

India β€” free from any phone

Emergency β€” everything
112

One number for police, fire and ambulance, 24 h, every state. Connects from a locked phone and with no balance on the SIM. Start here.

Police
100

The older direct line; still answered where 112 has not fully taken over.

Ambulance
108

Free state ambulance service β€” running in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. (102 is the separate free maternity ambulance, not this.)

Fire
101

Fire, gas leak, explosion.

Tourist helpline
1800-11-1363

Ministry of Tourism, 24 h, free, in English and eleven other languages besides Hindi. Advice, and it will alert the authorities for you. Short code 1363 works too.

Cyber / card fraud
1930

National cybercrime helpline. Call within the hour if money leaves a card or an account β€” the sooner it is reported, the more can be frozen. Report online too.

Consular duty phone
+91 99109 99477
newdelhi.wk.dyzurny@msz.gov.pl

After hours, for a real emergency only: accident, hospital, arrest, death, missing person, passport lost with a flight to catch. Not for visas.

Consular section
+91 11 4149 6904
nowedelhi.konsul@msz.gov.pl

Weekdays 14:00–15:30 (office 09:00–16:00). Also +91 11 4149 6992 and +91 11 4149 6975.

Switchboard
+91 11 4149 6900

Monday–Friday 09:00–16:00.

Delhi is our post for the entire trip: its consular district covers Delhi NCR, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh β€” every place on the itinerary. There is no closer Polish office in Rajasthan or Agra.

A lost passport means a police report first (the FIR), then the consulate for an emergency travel document. Bring the report, a photo, and any copy of the old passport.

Mobile in India
The number the others call. Roaming or the local SIM β€” whichever is actually switched on.
Insurer
Company name on the policy.
Policy no.
The number a hospital will ask for.
Insurer 24 h line
The assistance centre, not the sales line. Call it before a private hospital admits you β€” most policies require it.
EHIC / EKUZ
Does not work here: the European card covers the EU/EEA and Switzerland only. Travel insurance is the whole of your cover in India. Write "n/a" unless a policy says otherwise.
Blood type & allergies
Blood group, drug allergies, chronic conditions, regular medication.
Card-blocking hotline
Your own bank's 24 h number, written in international format β€” the in-app one is useless with a stolen phone.
